Installation Steps
Install the Wheel Hub
Drill mounting holes in the pedestal using the provided hole specifications. Pass the EMC-box cable through the center hole. Secure the wheel hub with four M5 bolts and washers. Route the cable to the planned EMC-box location.
Install the Steering Actuator
Mount the actuator onto the outboard motor's tilt axis on the transom bracket using the included mounting nuts. Attach the outboard motor's steering arm to the actuator's attachment plate. Use Loctite Blue threadlocker on M10 bolts, tightened to 35 ± 2 Nm. Route the cable to the EMC-box location.
Install the EMC-Box
Mount the EMC-box in a practical location where cables can reach the battery and kill switch. Connect the kill switch cable to your outboard motor's kill switch. Route and connect the power cable to the battery via the included 20 Amp fuse. The fuse must be placed as close to the power source as possible, not exceeding 1.8 m.
Connect the System
Attach the plugs from the actuator and wheel hub to the corresponding contacts on the EMC-box. This completes the electrical installation.
Prepare Emergency Steering
The emergency steering kit provides manual control in case of system failure. Attach the L-bracket to the actuator attachment plate and the clamp to the actuator axle. Store the emergency steering components and a 6mm hex key in an easily accessible location on board.
Warning: Improper installation can lead to steering failure, which could result in loss of control and serious injury or death. If you are unsure about any aspect of the installation, consult a qualified marine technician.
Self-locking nuts with plastic inserts shall be used for fastening the Wheel hub and Steering actuator.
Wiring Requirements
- All cables shall be supported throughout their entire length by conduits, cable trunking or by individual supports, at maximum intervals of 450 mm.
- Cable connections shall be placed above areas where water can accumulate and at least 25 mm above the level at which the automatic bilge pump switch activates.
- Cables shall be routed away from exhaust pipes and other heat sources. Minimum clearance is 50 mm from water-cooled exhaust components and 250 mm from dry exhaust components, unless an equivalent thermal barrier is provided.
- If used, solderless crimp-on terminals and connectors shall be attached with the correct crimping tool and withstand a tensile force of at least 60 N.
Important: The EMC-Box is not compliant with ISO 8846 (Ignition Protection – IPG) and must not be installed in any petrol tank or other space containing fuel vapours.
